The Jewish Federation of Eastern Connecticut supports community, state, national, and Israeli organizations through grants and annual allocations. It is the principal address for intergroup and interfaith relations in the region.
JFEC, as part of its educational efforts through the Strochlitz Holocaust Resource Center, works with public and parochial schools to promote the study of the Holocaust, combat racism, and stress the importance of taking individual responsibility for one's actions.
The Federation was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization in 1971. It organized a Jewish Family Service, which was funded by both United Way and the Jewish Federation. The Federation absorbed the Jewish Family Service and became a "functional Federation" and a United Way agency. Originally, the Federation was solely a shoreline organization. In 1986, Norwich joined the Federation, followed by Colchester, then Danielson/Putnam, and most recently, Willimantic, Connecticut.
JFEC has garnered a reputation in Eastern CT, and especially in the city of New London, as an effective agency to turn to when a client is in crisis. It also has developed one of the best Holocaust Resource Centers and programs in the state.

To promote and support a thriving Jewish community, to participate in the social service, civic, educational, and cultural life of the general community and to offer all those approaching the Federation with assistance, advice and direct aid, if possible.
JFEC strives to engage in community affairs with the spirit of Jewish ethics and traditions, foremost, acting under the commandment of "Tzedekah" or doing the right and just thing.
